These guides explain how to prepare an application. The original vacancy and its recruitment authority decide eligibility, required documents, selection stages and deadlines. Role suggestions use published job titles and simple matching rules; choose another guide when a title is ambiguous.

Your application, step by step

  1. Identify the profession and permitted duties

Check whether the vacancy is for a regulated practitioner, technician, assistant or researcher. Similar titles may have different scopes of practice and qualification requirements in different countries.

  2. Find the correct recognition authority

Use the destination country’s professional register or competent authority. Confirm what assessment, registration or language evidence applies to your profession and training route. Do not reuse a doctor’s or nurse’s registration instructions for another profession.

  3. Build an evidence-led application

Describe the populations, settings, methods and responsibilities relevant to the post. Select examples of assessment, multidisciplinary working, quality improvement and explaining findings. Include technical systems or equipment only where they matter to the role.

  4. Submit the vacancy’s application and evidence

Attach the requested qualifications, registration proof and experience certificates. Keep a record of pending recognition and its expected next step. Complete all employer questions even when the same information appears in your CV.

Prepare for selection

  • Practise explaining your professional reasoning to both a specialist and a service user.
  • Prepare a confidential, anonymised example of working across professional boundaries.
  • If a technical exercise is announced, review its scope, standards and permitted resources.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Assuming all health qualifications have automatic EU recognition.
  • Confusing recognition of an academic degree with authorisation to use a protected professional title.
