These guides explain how to prepare an application. The original vacancy and its recruitment authority decide eligibility, required documents, selection stages and deadlines. Role suggestions use published job titles and simple matching rules; choose another guide when a title is ambiguous.
Your application, step by step
Read the organisation’s own conditions
Identify the employer, duty country, contract category and required education, experience and languages. Nationality, work-authorisation and nomination conditions vary between organisations and programmes; EU citizenship is not a universal test.
Use the vacancy’s official system
CERN accepts complete applications through its careers system; ESA uses the Apply button on each vacancy; OECD provides its own online application instructions. Follow the actual employer’s notice rather than reusing another organisation’s forms.
Write evidence for an international panel
Explain your responsibilities and results without local acronyms. Show relevant technical ability, cooperation across teams and service to the organisation’s mandate. Enter accurate dates and answer all eligibility or technical screening questions.
Prepare the employer’s stated assessments
IAEA describes competency-based interviews and may use written or recorded-video stages. NATO International Staff publishes its own sequence and eligibility rules. Use those instructions only for the relevant employer and programme, and retain every submission confirmation.
Prepare for selection
- Prepare examples of delivering results across disciplines, cultures or locations, with your individual role made clear.
- Research the organisation’s mandate and the hiring team’s work; connect your experience to that specific vacancy.
- For any invited remote assessment, check the permitted tools, technical setup, time zone and adjustment process.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Applying NATO, CERN, ESA, OECD or UN-system eligibility rules to another employer.
- Assuming a European duty station makes the organisation an EU institution or makes every role open to all EU nationals.
