Job description
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for 2 full-time (1 FTE), fixed term positions as Research Assistants with the Discipline of Economics at the University of Galway, Ireland.
The 2 positions are funded by the Wellcome Trust’s funded project the ‘Effects of Polar Climate Change on Global Health and Healthcare’ in conjunction with the University of Exeter and are available from the 20th of October 2026 to contract end date of the 31st of December 2026 (with possible extension to February, 2027).
The “Effects of Polar Climate Change on Global Health and Healthcare” project was a 3-year project that aims to develop new integrated assessment models, Health-POLAR and Healthcare IND-POLAR, to supplement existing climate health analyses by assessing the additional impacts of polar tipping points on human health. Now in its final 3 months the project seeks to understand the economic cost of heat related mortality from climate change induced polar melt. These results will be used to communicate these impacts to enable policymakers, healthcare industry leaders, and citizens in climate-vulnerable regions to develop more effective adaptation plans.
